Frequently asked questions

What is the Meme Coin Season Index?

A bipolar 0-100 index that shows whether capital and attention are flowing into Bitcoin or into meme coins right now. Below 50 means Bitcoin is dominating. Above 50 means memes are the hot narrative. 100 is full meme season; 0 is full Bitcoin season.

How is this different from the Fear and Greed Index?

Fear and Greed measures how people feel: scared or greedy. The Season Index measures what is actually winning: BTC or memes. Fear and Greed can be high (greedy) even outside meme season if Bitcoin is pumping. The Season Index is only high when memes specifically are outperforming. Both are useful, they answer different questions.

How is the score calculated?

Six weighted signals: (1) what percentage of the top 50 memes outperformed Bitcoin over the last 7 days, weighted 30 percent. (2) Median meme 7d change minus BTC 7d change, weighted 20 percent. (3) How many of the top 100 global 24h gainers are memes, weighted 15 percent. (4) Meme volume as a share of total crypto 24h volume, weighted 10 percent. (5) Current BTC dominance, weighted 15 percent. (6) Pump-swap 24h trading volume vs its 7-day average (proxy for how active the pump.fun launch ecosystem is), weighted 10 percent.

What do the labels mean?

0 to 19 is Strong BTC Season, 20 to 39 is BTC Season, 40 to 59 is Neutral or Mixed, 60 to 79 is Meme Season, 80 to 100 is Full Meme Season. Strong readings on either side usually mean rotation is happening or about to happen.

Should I trade based on this index?

No. It's a quick snapshot of market structure, not financial advice. Markets can stay in one regime for long stretches. Use it as one input among many and always do your own research.

How often does the score update?

Roughly every hour, using fresh data from CoinGecko (price, volume, BTC dominance) and Defillama (pump-swap activity). The chart shows the score history at hourly resolution.

Built for fun, not financial advice. Data updates roughly every hour.
